Commissioned by Major David Lenox (born Scotland, 1753–1828) and his wife, Tacy Lukens (1752–1834, married 1779); to their niece and adopeted daughter, Sarah Lukens Keene (1784?–1866) for their summer home, most recently known as the Lenox-Keene House, Bristol, PA. Sold at auction to James Biddle (1929–2005) and his wife, Louisa Copeland (Biddle) Duemling (born 1936), Andalusia, PA, 1963; given to the Art Institute of Chicago, 1970.
